A quiet study of words, ideas, and the work in between.

I'm Arjun Varma Balaraju — a student who finds his voice through debate, public speaking, literature, and the arts. This is a small, honest record of what I'm making, reading, and learning along the way.

— About

A creative, hardworking student finding his voice through ideas, words, and effort.

I'm Arjun Varma Balaraju — a student who genuinely enjoys debating, public speaking, and expressing himself through different kinds of projects. I built this portfolio so I could showcase my work, skills, and growth in a way that feels personal but still professional.

I care about doing things well. Whether it's preparing for a debate, writing a piece, or sketching out an idea, I like the slow, considered side of work — the part where things take shape because you keep showing up.

This site is part record, part reflection. You'll find the projects I'm proud of, the awards I've earned along the way, and a journal where I write about what I'm thinking about. It's a small window into who I am, and what I'm working toward.

"Effort is the most honest thing about a person — it shows in everything you make."

A note to myself

— Pursuits

A few of the things I keep returning to.

These are the spaces where I do most of my thinking, making, and growing. They're loosely connected — but together, they're a fair picture of how I work.

Debate & Public Speaking
Voice

Debate & Public Speaking

Some of my favourite work happens at a podium. I love the preparation, the back-and-forth, and the feeling of shaping an argument in real time. Debate has taught me to listen carefully, think structurally, and speak with intent.

Literature & Writing
Page

Literature & Writing

I read widely — fiction, essays, philosophy — and I write to think. Writing is how I slow down, ask better questions, and pay attention to small things. The journal section of this site is where most of that lives.

Arts & Creative Projects
Eye

Arts & Creative Projects

From small sketches to side projects, I'm drawn to anything that asks me to look closely. The arts remind me that craft matters, and that the long way around is often the more honest one.

Languages & Ideas
Mind

Languages & Ideas

I'm fascinated by the way language shapes thought, and the way ideas travel between disciplines. A lot of my growth has come from being curious in rooms where I started off as the quietest person.

— Awards & Achievements

A few moments worth remembering.

A short, honest list of recognition I've received. I keep it here less as a trophy case, and more as a reminder of the work that led to each one.

Writing on ideas, growth & the in-between.

On Speaking

What I've learned from losing a debate

Losing taught me more about argumentation than any win ever did. A short note on listening, ego, and the work of getting better.
